Stichting Hubrecht Organoid Technology (HUB)

Hubrecht Organoid Technology (HUB) was founded by the Hubrecht Institute, the University Medical Center Utrecht, and the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW). The proprietary HUB Organoid Technology is a paradigm-shifting platform for drug discovery and development, predictive and companion diagnostics, and (pre)clinical patient stratification. As a global organoid centre of excellence, HUB exploits the pioneering work of Prof. Dr. Hans Clevers who discovered methods to grow stem cell-derived human epithelial tissue from tissues of patients with various diseases into ‘mini-organs’ (organoids).

HUB’s main task is to obtain primary tissue samples for colon from local hospitals, to generate organoids from the material as part of Work Package 1 and to provide organoids as well as matched primary tissue for further analysis. HUB is ideally qualified for this task, since the foundation was specifically launched to implement organoid technology at scale, has generated close to 1,000 models over the last year and is the leading institute worldwide for the generation of organoid biobanks.
